Stop Hunger 2017: against hunger, we’re not letting go!

  • International

Because hunger remains the number one health problem in the world, we are going further by supporting sustainable solutions, such as food self-sufficiency and access to training, education and employment. We are committed to women's economic equality and empowerment: by investing € 1 million in innovative and measurable programs, we are helping women to take meaningful action against hunger in their communities.

Advancing together, as close as possible to those who are hungry. Where Sodexo, our founding partner, is present, our local impact is real.

Because one in nine people in the world still suffers from hunger, food aid remains vital for survival.

But we are going further by supporting sustainable solutions, such as food self-sufficiency and providing access to training, education and employment, which account for 61% of our activities.

The number of volunteers increased by 13% over one year and multiplied by 2.5 between 2013 and 2017.

Proof that volunteering is one of our strengths. The Sodexo Company Volunteering Policy, deployed by 2020, will allow each employee to contribute their time and live their commitment against hunger.

Good to know: close to 50% of our volunteers are family and friends of Sodexo employees, clients, consumers and suppliers.

"YEAH!," to contribute to a human and useful experience.

Stop Hunger’s "YEAH!" program allows Sodexo experts to collaborate actively with NGOs.

At least 20 types of expertise required in a dozen areas are put at the service of partners, through local or international missions, for periods from a few days to several weeks.

Thanks to the financial support of Sodexo, 100% of the donations made to Stop Hunger go directly to support 1,200 local NGOs and their beneficiaries: such is the case in Romania with World Vision, in the United States with Share Our Strength, in Cambodia with Toutes à l’école, in the UK with FareShare and 30 Ashoka network social entrepreneurs, in India with GoodPlanet and in France with Restos du Coeur...

Good to know: we have renewed our global partnership with the World Food Programme (WFP), the leading humanitarian organization fighting hunger worldwide.

"Empowering women empowers humanity": economic equality for women means progress for all.

By empowering them, women can free the world from hunger.

If they had the same resources as men, the agricultural yield of developing countries would increase by up to 4% ... and we could feed up to 150 million more people!

Good to know: more than one million euros were invested in 2016-2017 in programs to empower women who work against hunger in their communities.

To end hunger, if the regular distribution of food remains a means to deal with critical situations, we are going further by developing food self-sufficiency.

Food assistance is nevertheless an important activity, with more than six million meals distributed in 2016-2017.

Good to know: 1,108,060 unsold meals were distributed by Stop Hunger to those most in need, accounting for 18% of total meals distributed.
